"The world must be filled with unsuccessful musical careers like mine, and it's probably a good thing. We don't need a lot of bad musicians filling the air with unnecessary sounds. Some of the professionals are bad enough. " -Andy Rooney
Too bad that nobody told us.
So here we are again at SN Audio recording our yet untitled debut album in our hometown of Jyväskylä, Finland. We chose to record here, because we've been here before so we already know the studio, it's capabilities and Sami (Niittykoski, our engineer extraordinaire aka Myyrä) knows his job and is probably one of the easiest guys to work with. One of the benefits of recording close to home is of course scheduling (we work for a living, you know) the sessions and the ability to sleep in your own bed instead of the floor of a single person cardboard box of an apartment located somewhere in the badlands. A massive luxury.
It took us three days to record ten drum tracks. To put that into perspective, try jogging for eight hours with just small breaks for three days in a row and you'll get some kind of idea about the physical demands of the job.
A big part of the first day was of course setting up the drums, choosing the right micorphones and finding a good sound from the drumkit to work with later in the mix. Ville and Sami tred a few drifferent setups for the kit including different china symbals and snares, but quickly chose to work with Ville's own snare. Ville quickly proceeded to record three tracks for the album before the day was over.
On the second day we went for an 8 hour day and Ville proceeded to record four tracks while Jarkko and Jukka we're giving the Imperial Japanese Air Force a hard time on Playstation 3 (Well Jarkko actually DID record 10 demo guitar tracks during these three days but what the hell). A very smooth day vith Ville once again on a roll.
On the third day Ville decided to redo a track from yesterday because he was'nt happy with the end result. This occasionally happens when you listen to yesterdays tracks with a pair of fresh ears on the next day. The mentioned song, the album closing track, is an almost eight minute, slow and moody song with some showstopping guitar harmonies from Jarkko and Jari. Just wait 'til you hear it.
"To get your playing more forceful, hit the drums harder." -Keith Moon
Next stop: The guitars. Until then, the question remains:
